Job Informations: The purpose of this job is to provide database administration of all the Corporate Production, QA, Development and Test databases. The role involves the establishment and utilization of effective policies and procedures for the definition, management, protection, and efficient utilization of systems, data and databases. This includes running scripts, installation, migration, monitoring, backup and recovery, tuning, resolving complex client related problems, and resolving all database related work/change orders in a timely manner. This is a hands-on intermediate technical support role that involves timely 7x24 support, as defined by in-house policies, of mission critical and other databases and software.
Key Accountabilities
* Database Monitoring/Tuning: Develop and improve procedures; for automated monitoring of database availability and performance; Review performance stats and recommend changes for tuning database, Server, storage configurations, and application SQL. This includes load-balancing and managing resources in a clustered environment.
* Database Backup/Recovery: Participate in periodic backup audits, ensuring all databases and associated logs are being backed-up; periodically conduct test database restores to validate backup integrity through regularly scheduled Disaster Recovery exercises.
* Database Problem Resolution: Assume ownership of database related problems; pursuing short and long-term problem resolution and root cause analysis; Work across support teams to gather information, determine and implement resolutions; Coordinate interaction with vendors in critical database problem situations.
* Database Software Installation and Upgrades: Identify hardware, software and configurations necessary to build and run database systems optimally. Specific knowledge and experience in installing and configuring highly-available DBMS solutions is required. Follows best practices for patch management, version maintenance, and initial deployment, including the creation and maintenance of a "gold image" for deployment.
* Contributes to the technical and strategic direction for the Database Management environment.
* Provides support/input in the evaluation and proof of concept for Database Management hardware and software.
* Establish best practices to support systems using appropriate tools such as Oracle Database/Grid Control and MS-SQL Cluster.
* Provides 7x24 pager support for level 2 escalations on a rotational basis with other team members and hands-on support to operational activities as required.
* Maintain documentation, including operational documentation, support knowledgebase, and configuration information.
* Will be required to work after business hours and during the weekends on short notice.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that likes to see things done through completion. Attention to detail is important, as is the keen desire and ability to learn new technologies. Key skills include:
Database Management experience in the deployment, administration and maintenance of software such as Oracle, MYSQL, and MS SQL Server.
Specifically including the following technologies:
MS SQL Server 2000 & 2005. This includes Microsoft SQL Enterprise environments including Clustering
Oracle 10g, 9i, & 8 on Unix & Linux
Oracle RAC, ClusterWare, ASM, Partitioning, Grid Control, & RMAN
MYSQL 5.x on Linux
* Experience working with teams such as QA, Operations, Architecture, etc.
* Oracle and MYSQL database Performance and Monitoring experience in the Distributed/Open Systems environment.
* Minimum 3+ years Database Management hands-on experience.
* University degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
* Database backup, recovery and Disaster Recovery experience with high availability solutions.
* Technical understanding of Solaris, Linux, Windows and Enterprise class Servers, including VMWare ESX 3.x.
* Experience in highly available systems and RAID configurations.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing environment.
* Role involves the solving of simple to complex problems specific to an assignment or operational type incident. Incumbents are expected to assist in solving of simple to complex problems.
* Incumbents are expected to perform initial troubleshooting on software related problems. If the problem is related or determined to be a defect in the vendors software, then the incumbent is expected to open an incident with the vendor and follow through to the resolution of the problem which may involve a fix or bypass.
* Incumbents are expected to perform root cause analysis looking for trends and providing recommendation on solutions to prevent future repeat issues.
