To reinvent itself for the next generation of Internet users, MSN looks to the Publishing Platform to empower a suite of global interactive services, provide industry-best content- and feed-management tools and construct an infinitely scalable rendering framework. Our platform is useless, however, without high-quality, discoverable, comprehensive documentation. We have the basics covered well, but we need you to drive greater breadth and depth, a unified documentation experience and a more streamlined set of doc-management tools - to create the ?MSDN of MSN.?
You will manage a documentation portfolio catering to editors, site managers, UX designers and product-development teams. The content catalog includes in-product help, SDK materials, knowledge-base support articles, conceptual overviews and deployment documentation. Deliverables map to multiple product release cycles, so great project-management and process-improvement skills are a necessity. So are excellent capabilities in documentation design, audience research, customer communication, writing and editing.
You will identify key stakeholders in MSN product groups and editorial teams. You will empanel them to understand customer needs, leverage partner resources and test new ideas. We expect a history of navigating organizational structures and forging alliances. Besides leaning on these partnerships, you?ll have surveys, usability research and the other tools at your disposal to prioritize content focus areas and tailor delivery mechanisms to customer use cases.
You will be our first FTE senior content publisher. We are recruiting you to raise our game. You will establish performance indicators for our documentation suite (and ensure that these metrics are captured and published), advocate successfully for documentation resources and manage a team of writers and editors. You will evolve our production system based on your insight about industry- and Microsoft-standard documentation tools. And you will lead projects to redesign the documentation experience of our products.
Your team will consist of a CSG and FTE mix, and you will own recruiting for this area. You?ll need a history of growing strong individual contributors.
Qualifications and experience:
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Several years of experience writing, editing and planning documentation for a diverse set of customers
Experience creating and executing a documentation strategy for a complex product or suite of products
Demonstrated ability to plan documentation projects based on customer needs and manage them with realistic/achievable schedules
Deep love of technology, with knowledge of Web technologies such as .NET/ASP.NET/Xml/XSLT/Web services a strong plus
Proven ability to lead teams and manage/grow people Required Skills:
